The new year is nearly upon us. Soon 2010 will be a distant memory. What kind of year did you have? Was it all you’d hoped it would be? Was it prosperous? Was it memorable or was it completely forgettable? Maybe your year was a total waste and you can hardly wait to put it behind you. Perhaps you had financial, or health issues, marriage or relationship problems, maybe you lost a family member or close friend.
Whatever misfortunes you may have suffered this past year, no matter how dark or painful, I urge you to take some time and reflect back on the last twelve months. Take a few moments and think back on the good, the bad and the ugly. Think about what went wrong and how it made you feel, how it still may be making you feel. Shed some tears if it makes you feel any better, we all have our “Job” moments. And remember, “Shit Happens.”
Next you need to focus on all the things that went right for you in 2010. Don’t be quick to say that there was nothing good or right about the past year, I guarantee you there was. Things can always be worse. No matter how dismal things may appear, there is always a bright side, there is always hope. “It is always darkest just before the dawn.”
Instead of despairing, “count your blessings.” Take a look around, we’re ALIVE! Damn it! We wake up every morning, each day ours to do with as we will. That in itself is a major blessing! We’re ALIVE Thank God! No matter how much baggage we’ve got strapped to our backs, we can still make a difference, we can still influence the world around us. It’s all a matter of attitude. We can’t let our burden influence how we act or how we view the world at large. We have to get the most from our lives. Pessimism will get us nowhere. Be Optimistic! The glass IS half full!
Count your blessings! We are surrounded by people who care about us, parents, grand- parents, husbands, wives, sons, daughters, grand kids, and other extended family. They will always be there for us, they are a part of us, they love us. We have our friends, some whom we have known since we were kids. Do you realize how special that is? How precious those relationships are? Good friends are there for us, willing to help share our burden if needed. Even if we can’t bring ourselves to ask for their help, we should stay in touch with them, stay connected.
Count your blessings! We’re Alive! We’re surrounded by God’s beauty! The rising and setting sun, a full moon, The mountains, the sea shore, a field of flowers, a forest, a butterfly, a dandelion, sunlight dancing on the window, the smile on the face of your children, holding hands, a birds song, the wind, laughter, love, the list goes on and on… Learn to appreciate the simple things. Cast your troubles aside and enjoy the life that God has given us. Get the most from it.
Count your Blessings. They are our greatest treasure, are grandest reward! They are what makes life worth living. That’s what it’s all about. Count your Blessings…
Happy New Year,
