Did you know that New Year’s is our oldest holiday? Mankind has been celebrating the new year for about 4000 years. Some ancient cultures actually celebrated for up to eleven days ! I guess we really do come from a long line of party animals.
With 2017 just a day away, are you ready to welcome in the new year? Have you made all your plans for the big New Year’s Eve celebration? Will you be going out to a party, dance, concert or some other gala event? Maybe you’re having your own New Year’s Eve bash or are you planning on spending a quiet evening at home. Will your New Year’s Day begin on the couch or recliner watching NFL football nursing a hard earned hang-over, followed by more of the same in the afternoon. No Rose Parade or bowl games until Monday for 2017, Blame it on Pasadena’s archaic “never on a Sunday”rule put into place in 1893 so that horses wouldn’t get riled up and disrupt church services. Perhaps the time has come to revisit this ridiculous ordinance. At least your hang-over won’t make you miss the parade this year.
There was a time when we lived to party on New Year’s Eve, there were dances, drinking, parties, drinking, Las Vegas, drinking, drinking and more drinking! I never met a beer I didn’t like (except maybe Bud Light) Ahh, the good old days. I don’t really remember too many of the details of the New Year’s Eve’s of my youth, most are a blur. What I do remember however is nursing plenty of New Year’s day hang overs. Oh yeah, those are times I’d rather forget. But thank God,things change, mostly for the better, guess it comes with age.
So, what are your plans? Are you going out New year’s Eve? Come midnight will you be wearing your party hat and tooting your horn? Will you be one of those drunken revelers singing “Auld Lang Syne” or maybe passed out on the sofa or worse yet, the floor? Will you be one of the unfortunate dummies who decide to drive after drinking and wind up with a DUI and spending New Year’s in jail. Well, will you? I sure hope not.
So what will you be doing this New Year’s Eve? The choice is yours my friends. Whatever you decide to do, have fun, use your head, and be safe. It’s all up to you…
HAPPY NEW YEAR!
